Golf

Among the many attractions of the East Neuk of Fife the numerous golf courses play a major part, with the majority of them being situated near the shoreline of the Firth of Forth. The infamous Old Course at St Andrews is only a short drive away, whilst it may be difficult to book a tee time on the course, there is a selection of other courses in St Andrews itself with several others on the outskirts of the town.

The courses vary from 9 - 18 holes and are very popular with both locals and tourists, so be sure to book your round in advance. If you require more information, please contact the club directly.

Anstruther Golf Course – 9 Hole
Anstruther Golf Club was founded in 1890 and has seen many changes over the years. The initial layout comprised 7 holes with trenches through the middle of the course and poles scattered over the greens to stop gliders landing during the war. In more peaceful times the course was extended to an excellent 9 holes which is kept in superb condition throughout the year.
The course is located 9 miles south of St Andrews and stretches along the shoreline between Anstruther and Pittenweem. The spectacular views over Anstruther Harbour and out to the Isle of May, Bass rock and south west to Edinburgh are a constant distraction. Golfers should beware of Anstruther Golf Club’s version of Amen corner which comprises a series of 3 challenging par 3’s starting with The Rockies (5th) voted the toughest par 3 in the UK!

Kingsbarns
The Kingsbarns Golf Links site has long been known for its intimate connection with the sea. The fact that its golf origins date back to 1793 is testimony to the attributes of the site which foster ideal conditions for links turf to flourish amid interesting natural terrain. This unique part of East Fife has sandy soils, undulating ridges and hollows, Cambo burn running into the sea, all set immediately against the rugged coastline of the North Sea.

Elie
Formed in 1875, only a handful of clubs in Scotland are older than Elie, and the course is a classic example of links golf.   From the opening hole, where a blind tee shot requires the starter to use a 30ft periscope from HMS Excalibur to ensure the way is clear, the course’s idiosyncratic charm becomes apparent.
The real character of the golf course is through the 6th to 14th holes, a stretch that takes golfers out to the sea and, with a wind off the Firth of Forth, leaves one in no doubt as to its seaside character.  Few tees in the world of golf are as beautiful as Elie’s short par 3, the 11th.

Lundin Links Ladies – 9 Hole
Lundin Ladies Golf Club is a nine-hole course and the oldest ladies club in Scotland. The club is open to both genders, but tee times to the public are limited so calling in advance is suggested.
The course plays 2,359 yards and when played as an 18-hole course is a par 68. The parkland-style course is located in the Standing Stanes Park, north of Lundin's main road and while accommodating to the beginner isn't a pushover for more seasoned players.

Lundin Links
Lundin Golf Club, near to St Andrews the 'Home of Golf', is well known throughout the golfing world as a course of rare quality. Founded in 1868, on a Tom Morris course it was extensively redesigned by five times Open Champion James Braid, in 1909.
Fine links fairways and excellent greens have ensured that it has been regularly selected as a final qualifying golf course for the Open Championship. Narrow fairways, bunkers, burns, and ever-changing winds guarantee a testing but rewarding golfing experience

Balcomie Links - Craighead – Crail
Crail Golfing Society is the 7th Oldest Golf Club in the world. Our members and guests have been enjoying some of the finest links golf in Scotland - many say the world - since 1786. Golfing legend Old Tom Morris laid out the original nine holes at Balcomie in 1895 and in 1998 a second course, Craighead Links, was designed by Gil Hanse, who has since achieved admiration for many courses including the new Castle Stuart course near Inverness.

Charleton
Charleton Golf Club, acclaimed to be one of the most beautiful Golf Courses in Scotland. Set in the Heart of Charleton Estate, owned by Baron St Clair Bonde, Charleton has gone from strength to strength since it's opening in 1994 by the former United States Of America President, George Bush Snr.
18 hole, par 72, SSS 72, as well as 9 hole Pitch & Putt, Driving Range, Club House with Restaurant & Bar and ride on golf buggies. 15 minutes from St. Andrews in the Kingdom of Fife. Charleton Golf Club, set in stunning parkland with spectacular panoramic views over the Firth of Forth, is acclaimed to be the most attractive golf course in Fife, with the most testing greens!
